DENTON – Women are seeking birthing alternatives to hospitals due to the increased risk of contracting COVID-19. Some families have been concerned about the emotional well being of the mother during the birthing process. This

Owner of Inanna Birth and Women’s Care, Jean Sala, sees the benefits of a birthing center, “Now we are very fortunate being in a small birthing center, we don’t have a large area, we only take care of healthy people, we do not have an intensive care unit, so there are not people mingling, running down to the elevator, going to the cafeteria, anything that they may have just taken care of a corona patient.”

Many expecting mothers have had to reconsider pain management options such as an epidural to transfer to the birth center. Many in the midwifery industry see it as something that could present issues for the mother and the child during labor, including Sala.

Sala also advised that herself and staff at Inanna Birth Center have been cleaning more than the normal amounts and being extra careful with the possibility of spreading the COVID-19 virus. Wiping down surfaces and doorknobs at the beginning and end of each workday and birth. This will be giving them a step up to help fight the spread of the virus.
